It is not always easy to find that perfect balance between work and play. In fact, most people struggle with it every day, but there are simple things you can do that will help.
Here are some tips on how to achieve a better work-life balance:
Sit Down For Dinner
Hammering out the perfect schedule is not a matter of thinking smart, it’s a matter of organizing your priorities. Choose a time to sit down for dinner each night of the work week (or at least 2-3 nights). Make it so the entire family is expected to attend. Even if the meal times are different on different days, having the same schedule each week will help you keep your head where it needs to be, exactly when it needs to be there.
Bring Family to Work Activities
It is valuable to build relationships with the people you work with, but not at the expense of your personal relationships. Many companies are hosting after work hours activities that are built to involve the full family. If there is a company party bring your family along.
Take A Break
Use a break to re-energize yourself. Do something that will make you forget about what you’re working on for a little while. Try calling home on your break just to check in. A simple phone call in that small window can boost your spirits and make you feel closer to home.
Turn Off Email Notifications
The easiest way to achieve an optimal work-life balance is to compartmentalize work and play. One way to do this is to turn off your work email notifications on your phone when you leave the office. It is so tempting to still be working mentally when your email is constantly reminding you of things going on at work. Knowing that the work day is behind you allows you to reset, and focus on other things.
